In the hood of Waterloo lies a new Italian joint with pizzas to delight the senses. Pizza Deli is now open in Waterloo and I drop by to check it out
Pizza Deli is a short walk from Green Square Station. I am addicted to Pizza and MW is quite hungry. As you walk in, the first thing you’ll notice is the mural on the wall of the very cute dog eating a pizza.
Pizza Deli is owned by Peter and Nicole, who tell me that they have been really busy with the delivery side of the business in the area. They have free delivery so that’s definitely ideal for the locals.
I dine in on this occasion. They have a nice selection of pizzas on their menu but they also have some nice starters to share and a smaller pasta selection.
I start off with the Pizza Deli antipasto plate ($20) which has cured meats, buffalo mozzarella, semi tried tomatoes, marinated artichokes and olives. I love picking at this plate and would highly recommend this dish if you’re dining in a group.
MW and I also decide to order a pasta dish, the Pizza Deli Arrabiata ($12). This home made pasta is mighty delicious in the simple sauce of tomato, chilli, garlic, extra virgin olive oil and fresh basil. The quality of the linguini makes the difference and it’s a dish that’s good on value. This one is definitely a recommend for vegetarians.
I also order some pizza which I plan on eating a bit and taking the rest home for dinner.
I order a large pizza, one half of the Szechaun chilli pizza which I predict will become their signature pizza. It’s got szechaun chilli prawns, shallots, capsicum, mozzarella on a sweet chilli base and is topped with fresh herbs. I love this pizza. It’s delicious.
I also tried the beef cheek pizza which MW really liked. The beef cheek pizza had braised beef cheek, caramelised onion and mozzarella on a cauliflower puree base topped with gremolata and truffle oil.
For those who want more loaded toppings (like MW). His favourite pizza was the supreme pizza. The Pizza Deli Supreme Pizza has double smoked leg ham, sopressa salami, mushrooms, capsicum, onion, pineapple, mozzarella and olives on a tomato base.
For any vegetarians who love loaded pizzas – I recommend the roasted vegetable pizza with grilled eggplant, grilled zucchini, roasted capsicum, roasted tomato, mozzarella and feta on a tomato base. It’s also topped with a pesto aioli.
Summary: Check out the new kid on the block – Pizza Deli – take advantage of their free delivery me thinks and try out their pizzas! My fave is definitely the szechaun prawn pizza.
